Las Condes

The project was awarded as first place finalists of a private architecture contest.  The proposal consists in designing the interior of a space composed by a 60 m2 access area, a double height volume of 150 m2 located in a second level and an exterior terrace or patio of 200 m2.

The enclosure is located in a well known and important commercial complex in the city of Santiago, Chile, in front of a high speed motorway.  At night, images are projected from the interior onto a large translucid crystal window, marking its presence in the commercial complex.

Due to the visual noise caused by image saturation, natural to commercial areas, the project proposes a counterpoint which expresses itself as an abstract and isolated place from its context.  This way, visitors are able to transport themselves to any scenario through the projection of digital images, such as: Tokyo, New York, Santiago; a Boeing’s cabin or a cruise’s bow.

The main material chosen is ebony, which through folds, turns and gradations defines the place’s space, emphasizing double heights, free floors and circulations, specific of buildings that base their activity on the act of seeing and being seen.  This way, the access stairs turn into a “sloped plaza”, the attic into a balcony and the kitchen into an inviting shop window.
